SHAKESPEARE WITHOUT EYES

A friend, art historian Vera Segre, invited me to see a curious show, Shakespeare without Eyes at Teatro libero in Milan. Ten blindfolded spectators are brought on stage by ten actors and involved in acting. I was a bit perplexed: how can a photographer do without the sense of sight? Then I thought I could try an experiment. I challenged my Fuji X30 – I always have a camera with me – and following only the voices of the actors I made a sequence of three shots. The result was curious. I wouldn’t say it’s art, but it certainly is an experiment that I might repeat. Blindfold photography as an alternative way to photography?

FUORI is Matteo Ceschi and Federico Ramponi‘s experimental photo project aiming to tell Fuori Salone activities. The project focuses on the side activities at the beginning and at the end of the Fuori Salone week. Neighborhoods (Ticinese, Tortona, Cinque vie, Brera and Lambrate) are swarming with people working hard to maintain their scheduled deadlines. Inside old walls, behind high windows, a new generation of workers reinvigorates Milan’s working tradition. Without them there would be no show! In this reportage people and different locations – which are now classic meeting points for designers, curious people, travelers and the Milanese movida as well – are seen through Matteo Ceschi’s b&w street shots and Federico Ramponi’s knowledge of the world of design.

Finally the show ends. But many people continue to work. Someone disassembles stands; others are driving vans directly back home; still others think of the next edition of Fuori Salone. But one thing is for sure: ideas & partnerships arise during the Milano Design Week.
